Common Red Flags to Help Identify a Scam
The message is unexpected or pressures you to act quickly
It plays on fear, excitement, or urgency
You’re told to click a link or open an attachment to fix an issue or claim a prize
You’re asked to share personal or account information
Payment is requested through gift cards, cryptocurrency, or cash apps
When in doubt, take control of the conversation.
If the message claims to be from someone you know or trust, stop the interaction and contact them directly using a phone number or website you already know. The key is that you start the conversation—not the other way around.
If the message is from someone you don’t recognize, end the communication. Don’t engage.
If you believe you’ve shared your Social Security number or sensitive banking information, contact Badger Globe Credit Union as soon as possible. You may also want to place a credit freeze with the following credit bureaus to help protect yourself from identity theft.
